Warming Center
The Warming Center will open Nov. 1 for unhoused people, and the area ELCA churches have agreed to provide evening meals the 3rd and 4th Friday of each month, November–April. Prepare the meal in your kitchen and drop it off at the Warming Center ready to be served. Other people serve the meal, you just prepare it. You are welcome to use the Hunger Task Force for meal ingredients. More info and reg at 1stlu.org/warm.
There will also be orientation sessions for both returning and new volunteer hosts (meal makers don't need to attend) for the 2023-24 season. All orientations will be at the La Crosse Warming Center at 413 S. 3rd St. in La Crosse. They will be on:
Wednesday, Oct. 11, 8am-10am
Monday, Oct. 16, 5-7pm
Thursday, Oct. 19, 6-8pm

There will be volunteer orientation opportunities for new volunteers as well as any returning volunteers that would like to go over questions or concerns. (The volunteer orientation is NOT mandatory, but helpful if people have questions or seem apprehensive about being in shelter). Volunteers would only need to attend one of the following sessions, (and they can go online to register, email me, or simply show up).
