OWLs Fly to the Movies

  • Marcus Cinema 2032 Ward Avenue La Crosse, WI, 54601 United States (map)

This coming Friday, Jan. 5 the OWLs are going to the movies. We will meet at the church at 2:45pm for a trip to the local cinema to see the latest version of The Color Purple. This is a brand-new remake of a powerful story of resilience and sisterhood with a vibrant modern twist. Bazawule’s visionary direction infuses Alice Walker’s beloved tale with magical realism, bursting onto the screen in a kaleidoscope of music, color and emotion. Witness Celie’s journey through hardship and joy explode beyond the page, fueled by powerhouse performances from Taraji P. Henson and Fantasia Barrino. Sing along to iconic moments reimagined, discover new depths to familiar characters and get swept away by a celebration of womanhood unlike anything you’ve seen before. This isn’t just a revisit, it’s a revelation—a testament to the timeless power of hope. So, join the OWLs and prepare to be moved. Trust me, you won’t regret stepping into the vibrant world of 2023’s The Color Purple. Fridays are senior day at the cinema, so the cost of the show is only $7.40. Brian will buy the tickets ahead of time so we can all sit together. You can pay Mary the night of the outing. It turns out Schmidty’s is closed next week so we will be having dinner at David Rea’s following the movie. This is a great chance for everyone to try their new menu.

If you would like to attend, please contact Brian at owls@firstlu.org.
