Volunteer Appreciation Picnic

Come and enjoy a fun-filled time THIS SUNDAY, July 16, from noon-2pm, at Rowe Park. We will have fiesta-type food, a piñata for kids and games for anyone young at heart. Of course, the water balloon fight at the end is always a big hit! We hope all can join us and “Get Your Fiesta On!!!”

COFFEE WITH PASTOR KARYN

Coffee with Pastor Karyn has started reading Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and Mohammed Cross the Road? by Brian D. McLaren. It’s a great time to join in the conversation, and this group is open to all and meets at 6:30am each Wednesday at Uptowne Cafe on the northside of La Crosse. See you there!

Blood Drive

Tuesday, July 25, 12:30-5:30pm, in the narthex. Every day ordinary people are saved by some pretty extraordinary people. People who give blood. Your donation could be the most valuable gift you ever give. Just ask anyone who’s ever received. To schedule your appointment go to www.bcw.edu/firstluthona. Registrations shorten your wait but are not required; walk-ins are welcome. Please bring a photo ID.

COME FOR SUPPER

First Lutheran is assisting with Come for Supper on Tuesday, July 25, at Our Savior’s in La Crosse. First Lutheran will help with food donations and volunteering to serve and clean up. The sign-up sheets are at the Welcome Center. Call Gloria Kubiak if you have questions, 608.498.2762.

Welcome Baskets

Welcome baskets are a way to welcome a new neighbor into your neighborhood. The baskets are a gift bag tied with a bow, filled with some goodies from church and from our community. They are available to sign out at the resource center across from the church office.

OWLs Fly to Steel Magnolias

Holding with tradition, the OWLs, a group for those 55+, will travel to Lanesboro for a fabulous production of “Steel Magnolias” at the Commonweal Theatre on Thursday, August 3, leaving the church at 4pm. RSVP to Brian Narveson by Monday, July 31: 608.526.9700 or owls@firstlu.org.

Baptismal Preparation

A baptism preparation session will be Saturday, August 5, at 10am in the narthex for anyone who is considering or has scheduled a baptism. To register or ask questions, contact the church office: 608.783.2236 / office@firstlu.org.

VBS Help

The following items are needed for this year’s VBS program:

  • Gallon jugs with lids
  • Empty coffee cans or baby formula containers (metal or plastic cylinder without sharp edges)
  • Large cardboard boxes or pieces

Other items needed, to be borrowed and returned:

  • Garden cart / wheelbarrow
  • Blue and black tarp

Kitchen help is needed for the program, August 6-10. Helpers are needed to prepare food beforehand (around 3pm), serve the meals (5-5:45 pm), and do cleanup (5:45-6:30). Helpers are needed each night; so help one or more days, whatever you are able! Please contact Becky Runde at 507.259.0295 / vbs@firstlu.org to let her know what help you can give. Thanks!

Sugar Creek Bus Trips

Adult Bus Trips:

  • Aug. 23 Fireside Dinner Theatre: “Church Basement Ladies”;
  • Oct. 1-7 Washington D.C. and Gettysburg Tour

First Teen Clothes Closet

This month’s most wanted:

  • Swimsuits (especially for teen girls)
  • Summer dresses for teen girls
  • Athletic shorts for both guys and gals

And remember, we are also now a drop-off for the Children’s Clothes Closet in La Crosse! Leave your gently used teen-appropriate AND children’s clothing in the hamper in the front entrance of the church. Thank you for your generosity!

Helping Hands

If you need help with small jobs around the house or if you need a couple of meals or groceries delivered, just go to the “Helping Hands” board by the nursery and make out a slip with a description of what you need help with and your telephone number. Then anyone who thinks they can help out can take the slip and call the number to work out the details. This ministry is open to all in need of help AND to those who can provide the help. There is no set group of “helpers” so we need involvement from all who can be a blessing to someone else. Thanks!
