Aliyah Recaps Her Global Mission Year
Aliyah Richling, who spent a year in Hungary as a Young Adult in Global Mission, will preach during worship Sunday, August 21, about her experience working with the Lutheran church and the community of Bekescsaba.
Prayer Chain
Prayer is one of the most universal expressions of our faith, of the faith of many people. It is our connection to God that can take on many different forms. It has been a part of human history since the beginning of time. As we begin to build an intentional prayer ministry here at First, we will create a visual representation of our prayers in the sanctuary. You are encouraged to fill out one of the prayer request slips you were handed as you came in and place them in the offering plate. A small team of people will be praying through our requests, and in a few weeks, we will see these different requests together in a chain, a visible sign of our needs, our trust and our community.
LWR School Kits
We have collected enough school supplies to fill the 77 school bags we have. We could use monetary donations so we can buy more school bags as more school supplies come in.
Help People Affected by Storm Damage in Alma
On August 11, Alma and the surrounding area received 8 to 12 inches of rain in less than
6 hours. Farms and homes have suffered great losses. Because much of the damage was caused by moving earth and debris, many homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover the damage. St John Lutheran in Alma is working with emergency services, banks and other churches to help those in need. If you would like to help, the best way is give money, which will be sent to St John’s disaster relief fund. Make out your check to First Lutheran and put “St. John” in the memo line, or give at 1stlu.org/give.
VeggieTales
While Sunday school is off for the summer, children ages 3 (and potty-trained) through grade 5 can still spend time together on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. with an episode of Veggie Tales.
Sugar Creek Golf Tournament Fundraiser

Help Those In Need Stay Warm
The Lennox corporation is, once again, looking for nominees for its “Heat Up Wisconsin” program. The company is “looking for a family who could use a helping hand; a veteran, an elder, or disabled person or someone who just needs a hand.” Lennox will donate a furnace, along with free installation. Nominate at heatupwisconsin.com or mention a name to our pastors by August 28.

The OWLs have had to cancel their trip to the Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro, MN, which was scheduled for August 29, but they hope to reschedule for a date in September.
