OWLs Post for April 2015

The OWLs March began with an exciting trip to the International Festival of Owls in Houston, Minnesota. Many of us got up early on a Saturday morning to experience a day of owls. We saw a very interesting program featuring a number of live rescue owls, learned about the owl art now on display around the town of Houston. Had an owl-themed lunch, saw a video on the Italian owls festival and bought owl souvenirs. You could easily say the day was a hoot. See the photos above.
April will begin with an outing to Sugar Creek Bible Camp to attend Yesterday’s Youth. We will leave the church at 8AM on Monday, April 13 for a day of excellent speakers, music, a great noon meal and fellowship with about 100 Lutherans from around the region. It is a beautiful time of year to make the trip south along the river and watch for eagles. The details of the program were not available when the newsletter was written. Please watch the Sunday bulletin and emails for further information.

Our April potluck will be on Wednesday, April 15 at noon in the narthex. In addition to the good food and fellowship we have come to expect we will have a special guest for our program. Aliyah Richling, whose exceptional vocal talent we enjoy during worship, will tell us about how she got into music, what led her to teach, some of her teaching experiences and the music program at UWL. On a previous OWLs outing, we enjoyed an excellent concert by Aliyah’s jazz music students. Maybe we can get her to tell about how she coaches such wonderful sound and entertainment from her students.

Look forward to seeing everyone in April!
