Sympathy to the family and friends of John J. Olson

John J. Olson, 91, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse.

He was born March 4, 1924, in Colfax, Wis., to John and Kathryn (Wiseman) Olson. He grew up in New Auburn, Wis., before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II. His tour of duty in the Army took him to many places, including India and Tinian Island. Following his return to the States, he settled in Whitehall, Wis., where he met and married Katherine Schultz on Jan. 1, 1951. John and Katherine moved to Onalaska, and John worked for the Trane Company, retiring after 38 years.

John is survived by his wife, Katherine, of Onalaska; five children, David of Onalaska, Susan Olson of St Paul, Minn., Kari Olson of Goodland, Minn., Krista Wolfe of Blaine, Minn., and Barbara Czaplewski of Blaine; five grandchildren, Christine Olson, Leah Olson, Katie Olson, Mike Czaplewski and Brittany Czaplewski; five great-grandchildren, William Booker, Christopher Olson, Mathew Olson, Madison Czaplewski and Hunter Garrick.

John was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Daniel; four brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at First Lutheran Church in Onalaska. The Rev. Jason Stanton will officiate. Burial with Military Honors by Neil S. Lewison American Legion Post 439 will follow in Lincoln Cemetery in Whitehall. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Fossum Funeral and Cremation Service of Onalaska, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church.
