OWLs Post for September 2017

It was great to seeing everyone after our break in July. A group of 22 of us had a wonderful evening in August with dinner and the play “Steel Magnolias” in Lanesboro. Thank you to everyone who helped by driving.

Everyone likes a good story. Whether it’s a play, movie or book. But one of the best experiences is listening to a talented live storyteller. In the La Crosse area, we are blessed with the premier storytelling festival in the Midwest. The La Crosse Storytelling Festival in Myrick Park is the only storytelling festival in Wisconsin. Each fall, national and local tellers and musicians present a phenomenal two-day family event. For our September outing, we will attend the festival on Saturday, Sept. 9 for an outstanding program of story tellers and musicians. Cost of the event is $5 with $3 off if you have a library card. We will meet at the church at 10:30am on Saturday, September 9. Before attending the festival, we will have a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Lunch is on your own. We will return to the church by 4pm. Because the restaurants like a count beforehand, please let Brian Narveson (608.526.9700 or owls@firstlu.org ) know if you plan to attend by Thursday night, September 7.

For the September potluck, Brian and Mary Narveson would like to invite all the OWLs to their home at W7572 Price Ct. in Holmen (Holland) at noon on Wednesday, September 20. We are praying for a beautiful day where everyone can gather on the deck overlooking the Mississippi River Valley. For our program, we will focus on another type of storytelling. Mary has been a writer and fan of poetry for many years. She will share some of her favorite poems, but we also ask everyone to bring a favorite poem of yours to share with the group. It can be anything from a poem you have written, a favorite Psalm or a poem that has touched you. If you need directions to the Narvesons’, they can be contacted at 608.526.9700 or owls@firstlu.org. Many older GPS units do not know where Price Ct. is, but Google Maps can print you an excellent map. They will be glad to email you a map on request.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in September.
