OWLs

On Wednesday, March 8, the OWLs, a group for those 55+, will leave church at 4:30pm to see the musical group “Route 66” at the Marie W. Heider Center for the Arts. RSVP to Brian at owls@firstlu.org by March 2. The OWLs will have their March potluck on Wednesday, March 15, at 11:45am instead of noon, to join the Lenten worshipers. Please bring extra to share.

Walk for Water

Experience firsthand what it is like to carry a 5-gallon jug of water through a simulated water collection experience. Come to the mall March 11 anytime between 10am and 3pm to walk the “Walk for Water” course that youth experienced at the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering!

Worship Team Gatherings

In order to better know other members in our worship teams, and to review team goals, plan on attending the gathering time for your teams listed below:

  • March 5, 11:30am for altar guild/communion set-up
  • March 8, 7pm for intercessors (these people will write the prayers of intercession each week)
  • March 12, 11:30am for puppets and tech
  • March 15, 7pm for worship coordinators (these people will be our primary coordinator for any given worship service, making sure people are present, trouble-shooting when needed, and eventually helping with training etc. We are seeking 6 people to make this team.)
  • March 19, 11:30am for ushers
  • March 22, 7pm for bread bakers

Fundraiser for Youth: Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus

Do you use bug spray during the summer? Chances are the answer is yes—and everyone around you has the same answer! During the weeks of March 5–26 youth can sell Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus products to their family and friends and make money toward their church trip this summer. Preschool Open House

Let families with preschoolers know! Join us for our open house on Thursday, March 10, from 4:30-5:30 pm. Meet the teachers and check out the classrooms.

Drawing from the Well

First Lutheran invites all women to participate in this discipline, where we will explore the idea of wellness. They meet on the second Saturday of the month, from 8:30am–1:30pm. Next retreat: Sat., March 11. Contact Pastor Karyn for more info: karyn@firstlu.org.

Graduation Milestone 

Graduates: You and your parents/guardians are cordially invited to mark the milestone of your graduation at First Lutheran’s High School Graduation Recognition Dinner on Sunday, March 19, from 6-8pm. RSVP to the church office by March 12: 608.783.2236.

Middle School Sugar Creek Retreat

Fri, Mar 17, 6pm–Sun, Mar 19, 2pm. Come for a Spirit-filled weekend of new friends, bible studies, winter activities, good food, and so much more!! Each retreat is better than the last and we always come away wanting more!. Cost: $85. Free transportation in the church van!

Sugar Creek Horse Project

Camper fees at Sugar Creek Bible Camp cover only 73% of the cost of camp. Monetary gifts are vital to the camp’s operating budget, and you can help by donating through the Sugar Creek Horse Project. Look for the horse on the bulletin board outside the church office. Give $20 to Sugar Creek and put your name in one of the squares.

Blood Drive

Thursday, March 30, 12:30-5:30pm. Every day ordinary people are saved by some pretty extraordinary people. People who give blood. Your donation could be the most valuable gift you ever give. Just ask anyone who’s ever received. Walk-ins welcome; appointments encouraged, schedule yours at www.bcw.edu/firstluthona. Please bring a photo ID.

Mabel Anderson Scholarship 

Applications are now available. Completed applications are due no later than 11:30am on Sunday, April 30. Students may apply if they will graduate from high school in the spring and have plans to pursue post-secondary education. The application includes writing an essay and completing a worksheet that reflects the student’s involvement in church activities. Application forms are available at 1stlu.org/scholarship or in the church office during office hours, M–F 8am–4pm.

Baptismal Preparation

A baptism preparation session will be Saturday, April 1, at 10am in the narthex for anyone who is considering or has scheduled a baptism. To register or ask questions, contact the church office: 608.783.2236 / office@firstlu.org.
