YY Blessing Bags

Young Youth will be packing Blessing Bags to give to those in need on Wednesday, April 27 at 5:45pm in room 203. Donations for blessing bags are also needed. See insert for a full shopping list.

Flowers in the sanctuary are in honor of Steve & Sue Thinnes’ 35th wedding anniversary

Little LEAPs

This group is for parents/guardians and their children ages birth to 3 years old, and meets the last Sunday, at 9:15am in room 102. We sing, dance, play, and pray together to learn ways to raise our little Christians in the home. We have time with the kids and time with just the adults. During the adult time, we have volunteers come in and play with our children as we talk. We welcome newcomers all the time—join us! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer who helps our children during adult time, please contact Carla Stanton, carla@firstlu.org.

NEWSLETTER ASSEMBLY

It’s a relaxing way to volunteer! Come to the church on Thursday, April 28, at 9am, to assemble the May newsletter. See you there!

NEW-MEMBER SESSIONS

First Lutheran welcomes all people to participate in Christ’s mission through our ministries, worship and programs, whether you are a member or not. Membership does, however, benefit our congregation. If you’re a member, we know your contact information, can more easily provide you with ministry opportunities and invite you to offer your gifts to the rest of this family of faith. The next new-member session will be Sunday, May 1, with new member Sunday on May 8. To register your family or ask questions, call our church office at 608.783.2236 or email office@firstlu.org.

Prayer Walk Week

During the week of May 1–7, families, friends, small groups, confirmation small groups and Sunday school classes have the opportunity to pray for neighborhoods, schools, playgrounds, businesses and our whole community. We encourage you to join us in our prayer walk. Sign up at 1stlu.org/prayerwalk.

UW-L Women’s Chorus

The UW-La Crosse Women’s Chorus will sing during the 10:30am service on Sunday, May 1. The choir, made up of 24 women who are primarily non-muisc majors, is conducted by Janette Hanson.

Springfest

The preschool Springfest is on Sunday, May 1, at 3pm in the narthex. Springfest provides an opportunity for current preschoolers to showcase their singing talents, along with church members. It’s also a major fund-raiser for the preschool. After the concert there will be an ice cream social and silent auction. This event is for all family members, grandparents, friends and neighbors.

Church Women United: May Friendship Day

May 6, 9:30–11am, at First Congregational Church, 2503 Main St, Onalaska. $5 brunch. RSVP to Mary by May 2: 608.782.7013. Least coin offering.

Veterans Ministry

The Veterans Ministry is looking for donations of new or lightly used sleeping bags, tents and adult clothes. Leave donations in the church narthex.

Provide a Chair at the Table!

All year we have been talking about how God shows up when we Come to the Table. As we renovate the Fellowship Hall, where milestones, meals and more happen, we need new chairs to safely rest upon our new floor. Please consider making a special gift to the Fellowship Hall Fund. Thank you for providing a “Chair at the Table.”

LWR Thanks!

Together during Lent we collected enough towels, combs, toothbrushes and more to create 400 health kits! A big thanks to Merrill & Judy Wachter for delivering the boxes of kits to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse in the Twin Cities!

Clothes Closet

With the changing seasons, the First Teen Clothes Closet is getting ready for summer. We welcome donations of shorts, short-sleeved shirts, sandals, and swimwear; there is also still a need for boys’ jeans, particularly in the 32x34 and 32x36 sizes, and for girls’ leggings. Please hold on to your winter items until the fall, as we have limited space for storing out of season clothing. Watch for new social media accounts specifically for the Clothes Closet, then share them with your network!

Nursery Attendant

First Lutheran Church, Onalaska, is seeking a part-time nursery attendant for children younger than 5. Times might include Sunday mornings, but would mostly be for occasional opportunities for additional hours during evenings. Call 608.783.2236 for more information.

Child Care Assistants for Parenting Class
Can you help with child care during our parenting class on Sunday evenings through May 1? We need two people to help our child care provider between 6:15 and 8 p.m. Youth should have some experience babysitting or working in the nursery. Sign up at 1stlu.org/nurseryhlp.

Welcome Baskets

Members of First Lutheran, the Welcome Basket Team is looking for your help. We would like to include in our baskets items from our congregation. Items like knitted or crocheted dishcloths, scrubbies, or other homemade items. We would also like to include area business coupons, business cards or other small promotional items. If you have a business you would like to promote in our Welcome Basket or an item you would like to donate, please let Kathryn know. Give her a call at church, or e-mail if you are interested or have any questions. Call 608.783.2236 or e-mail at kathryn@firstlu.org.

Young Youth Trip to Wisconsin Dells

On Tuesday, June 14, 9am–7pm, the Young Youth will be going to Noah’s Ark in Wisconsin Dells. Even though this is a youth event it will act more like a family outing. If there are any youth that absolutely can’t have an adult come let me know and we will work it out. We want everyone who would like to come to be able to participate. RSVP to katie@firstlu.org.

Young Youth Explorer Day at Sugar Creek

On Tuesday, July 12, the Young Youth will go to Sugar Creek for an exciting one-day adventure at Sugar Creek. Explore camp with games, nature time, crafts, swimming, a pony ride, Bible study, singing and more! The cost is $20 a camper and includes a lunch and a snack. We will meet at the church at 7:40am and return between 4:30pm and 5pm. RSVP to katie@firstlu.org.

VBS: Mark your calendars!

Plan ahead to be here for Vacation Bible School this summer August 7-11. We will need teachers and helpers to make it a success. Please consider being a part of the fun adventure. Let Becky Runde know if you are interested in helping in some way. You can reach her at vbs@firstlu.org or 507.259.0295.

Sermon Notes & Audio

Sermon notes are available from ushers during worship; they are also available online, along with the sermon audio, at 1stlu.org/sermons. Sermon notes are meant to be used…

  • During worship to write down things you hear that surprise, shock, or otherwise strike a chord with you.
  • At home, to think about what you heard during the sermon and what it means to you, in your life, right now.
  • In small groups, to share your thoughts and to listen to others talk about how they heard the sermon and were moved by it.
