Sunshine Boys

The Sunshine Boys serve at First to help with odd jobs around the building. In January they will meet on a different day: Monday the 11th, at 9am. Rolls and coffee are supplied to replenish your reserves! Dues are free! Contact Mike, our custodian, with any questions: mike@firstlu.org.

Clothes Closet Appointment Hosts Needed

Make a difference in the community by hosting Teen Clothes Closet appointments. As an adult volunteer, you will be teamed with another host to welcome teens and their guardian/parent as they select clothes from the First Teen Clothes Closet, located in the house. If you want to learn more, attend an information and training session Wednesday, January 13, at 7pm at the house. Sign up at firstlu.org/cchost or contact Bridget Crave,bridget@firstlu.org.

Youth Praise Band 2016

Kick off the new year and join the Youth Praise Band! We are especially looking for a guitarist and bass player. All youths 18 or younger are welcome. Experience playing with a group is NOT needed. Gifts of Imperfection Small Group

By popular demand, a new small group starts this month to study The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.

  • January 14–March 31 (no meeting on Maundy Thursday)

  • Let go of who you think you’re supposed to be and embrace who you are.

Confronting Racism:  A Holy Yearning; Live Webcast

Thursday, January 14, 8–9pm. Tune in for Presiding Bishop Eaton and William B. Horne II (ELCA member from Clearwater, Fla.) as they continue their conversation on racism —
a violation of God’s intention for humanity —
in another live webcast. Eaton and Horne will be joined by other ELCA members who bring various perspectives on the U.S. criminal justice system. First Lutheran will show this webcast in Fellowship Hall when it airs live. RSVP and more info at firstlu.org/webcast.

NEW-MEMBER SESSIONS

We offer several new-member sessions each year to acquaint new members with First and with other newcomers. The next new-member session will be Sunday, January 17, from 11:45am–2:30pm, with New Member Sunday on January 24. The nursery is available for use, but children are welcome to be present. Come for Supper

First Lutheran is assisting with Come for Supper on Tuesday, January 26, at Our Savior’s in La Crosse. First Lutheran will help with food donations and volunteering to serve and clean up. The sign-up sheets are on the Connecting Point table. Call Gloria Kubiak if you have questions: 608.498.2762.

  • Lift ticket and board rental: $34

All packages include group lesson for ages 10+ (lesson starts at 1pm sharp) and lunch (hot dog, chips and soda).

First’s Annual Potluck!

All members are invited to First’s Annual Potluck. We will eat together, and our kids will play together while the adults share our greatest faith stories from the past year. God is doing all kinds of things at First Lutheran, so our Annual Potluck will be a celebration of what has been and a look ahead to what will be. Save the date!
