OWLs Post for January 2015
The OWLs did not let the cold of December slow them down. We started the month with a great day at Sugar Creek, including a Scandinavian lunch complete with lefse. The afternoon musical program was lively and entertaining. Our Christmas potluck was a feast to behold with great food and many Christmas goodies, followed by a spirited competition of Christmas trivia and guess the carol. The holiday spirit was further enhanced with the many beautiful Christmas sweaters worn to the event (see photo). Fun was had by all.
Even though January is the depth of winter the OWLs will not be deterred. Back by popular demand is the OWLs Friday Night Out. Our fun will begin on Friday, January 16th with dinner at a local restaurant followed by an intimate concert at the Pump House. The Pump House has a small theater that allows excellent interaction between the performers and audience. The guest artist Johnsmith is an Irish folk singer/songwriter. Johnsmith has the ability to captivate any audience with his creative acoustic melodies and his powerfully moving lyrics. He will be accompanied by his long time friend and String Ties member Dan Sebranek. The cost of a ticket is $21. We will meet at the church at 4:30 on Friday, January 16th. If you are plan to attend, notify Brian Narveson (phone: 608.526.9700) by Monday, January 12th, so tickets can be reserved ahead of time. The Pump House is handicap accessible with an elevator up to the theater. Dinner is on your own.
The January potluck will be at noon on Wednesday, January 21st in the fellowship hall. Rob Wessler speaks about his experiences teaching in China. Most of you will remember the excellent presentation Rob gave us 2 years ago about his experience conducting musical summer camps in Haiti. We are pleased to have Rob back to talk about his adventures in China.
