Invitation to Change Lives

One of the significant actions we can take as Christians is changing people’s lives for the better. Whether it be people in our congregation, in our community or in the world. As a community, First Lutheran is making positive changes in many lives. Since the 1st of September, First has been telling a story each Sunday and Wednesday about one of the many ministries at First Lutheran that Change A Life. During October, you will receive an invite to Invitation Week, the week of Oct. 27. It will include an RSVP for attending a celebration of the many Lives we Change and the opportunity to increase your giving to First Lutheran to Change more Lives. Our celebration will include worship services with special music, followed by food and displays about the many ministries of First Lutheran Church that Change a Life. Enjoy the stories!

Sunday Morning with Coffee

What do angels, demons, and satan have to do with each other? They are all spiritual beings you'll encounter in the Bible. Ever heard others talk about angels, or the devil, and didn't know what to make of what they have said? This group meets each Sunday during the education hour, in the Mary Room. Grab a cup of coffee, view a short video and discuss with others each week.

Baptismal Preparation

A baptism preparation session will be Saturday, Oct. 5 , at 10am in the narthex for anyone who is considering or has scheduled a baptism. To register or ask questions, contact the church office: 608.783.2236 / office@firstlu.org.

Coulee Region Hunger Walk

First Lutheran is teaming with other area churches and secular organizations to start a fundraising walk for hunger, The Coulee Region Hunger Walk. It’s a 5K being held Oct. 13, starting at Myrick Park. It’s a fun time for all with music, raffle and snacks. We hope that First will have at least 60 walkers. Registration begins at noon, runners start at 1pm, and walkers start immediately after the runners. Pledge/reg forms are available in narthex, or at 1stlu.org/hungerwalk and Facebook.

New-Member Social

By choosing to become a member, individuals and families commit to being part of a shared mission. People who would like to become members of First Lutheran are invited to a social at Red Pines on Thursday, Oct. 10, 6pm, where you will get to know more about First and the staff in a relaxed atmosphere. To register your family or ask questions, call our church office at 608.783.2236 or email office@firstlu.org.

Food Basket Needs

Onalaska-Holmen Food Basket needs the following: Canned tomato products, spaghetti sauce, cream soups, Spaghettios, Hamburger Helper, paper products.

Needed: Larger Size Clothing

If you have items to donate that are 2X and larger — for guys or girls — and in styles teens might like, we would love to have them! Donations of gently used, clean clothing may be dropped off in the hampers located in the church entry.

Parent Share

Join Carla Stanton, member of First, certified spiritual director and mom of three, in room 201 every Sunday morning at 9:15am. At Parent Share, we pray and talk about raising our children faithfully.

Parking Lot Ministry

This ministry needs warm and friendly faces to greet guests and worshipers who come into the parking lot, giving help if needed at the giving umbrellas to those who need one when it’s raining. Come to the Welcome Center to receive more information and sign up to help.

Companion Ministry

The gift of communion is Christ’s invitation for us all. Homebound members or those in nursing home care cannot make it to church and still would love to also receive that gift. Companion ministers help provide the service of delivering communion to them. They visit these members, usually monthly, give them communion, and have wonderful conversations. Good friendships are formed and the members receiving the communion feel grateful for that gift. If you love visiting with and helping people, consider becoming a companion minister. It is a very fulfilling job. Talk to one of the pastors for more information.

COFFEE WITH PASTOR KARYN

Coffee with Pastor Karyn is open to all and meets at 6:30am each Wednesday at Panera. See you there!
