Invitation to Change Lives

One of the significant actions we can take as Christians is changing people’s lives for the better. Whether it be people in our congregation, in our community or in the world. As a community, First Lutheran is making positive changes in many lives. Since the 1st of September, First has been telling a story each Sunday and Wednesday about one of the many ministries at First Lutheran that Change A Life. During October, you will receive an invite to Invitation Week, the week of Oct. 27. It will include an RSVP for attending a celebration of the many Lives we Change and the opportunity to increase your giving to First Lutheran to Change more Lives. Our celebration will include worship services with special music, followed by food and displays about the many ministries of First Lutheran Church that Change a Life.
Enjoy the stories!

Entering Grade 6 Milestone

At First Lutheran we are committed to bringing the presence of God into the lives of children everywhere they go. This life milestone is for sixth-graders and their parents/guardians as they transition from elementary to middle school, and celebrates that each child is made in the image of God. We talk about being created in the image of God, how God is in the midst of change, and ways that we can feel connected with God through spiritual practices. Week one starts THIS Sunday, Sept. 22, 9:15am in the Fireside Rm.

Sunday Morning with Coffee

What do angels, demons, and satan have to do with each other? They are all spiritual beings you'll encounter in the Bible. Ever heard others talk about angels, or the devil, and didn't know what to make of what they have said? This group meets each Sunday during the education hour, in the Mary Room. Grab a cup of coffee, view a short video and discuss with others each week.

COME FOR SUPPER

First Lutheran is assisting with Come for Supper on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Our Savior’s in La Crosse. First Lutheran will help with food donations and volunteering to serve and clean up. The sign-up sheets are at the Welcome Center. Call Gloria Kubiak if you have questions, 608.498.2762.

NEWSLETTER ASSEMBLY

It’s a relaxing way to volunteer! Friday, Sept. 27, at 9am, to assemble the October newsletter. See you there!

Coulee Region Hunger Walk

First Lutheran is teaming with other area churches and secular organizations to start a fundraising walk for hunger, The Coulee Region Hunger Walk. It’s a 5K being held Oct. 13, starting at Myrick Park. It’s a fun time for all with music, raffle and snacks. We hope that First will have at least 60 walkers. Registration begins at noon, runners start at 1pm, and walkers start immediately after the runners. Pledge/reg forms are available in narthex, or at 1stlu.org/hungerwalk and Facebook.

Food Basket Needs

Onalaska-Holmen Food Basket needs the following: Canned tomato products, spaghetti sauce, cream soups, Spaghettios, Hamburger Helper, paper products.

Lost & Found

All of our lost and found items are on display in the narthex. Please take the time to look them over, and take any items you might have lost. Any items left on Thursday will be donated to local charities.

New-Member Social

By choosing to become a member, individuals and families commit to being part of a shared mission. People who would like to become members of First Lutheran are invited to a social at Red Pines on Thursday, Oct. 10, 6pm, where you will get to know more about First and the staff in a relaxed atmosphere. To register your family or ask questions, call our church office at 608.783.2236 or email office@firstlu.org.

Blood Drive

Friday, Sept. 27, 12:30-4:30pm. Every day ordinary people are saved by some pretty extraordinary people. People who give blood. Your donation could be the most valuable gift you ever give. Just ask anyone who’s ever received. Walk-ins welcome; appointments encouraged, schedule yours at 1stlu.org/blooddrive. Please bring a photo ID.

Faith Alive Visitations

A group of First Lutheran members have initiated a new Faith Alive mission. Their goal is to “keep-in-touch” with our fellow members who are home bound.  The visitation team will keep Faith Alive with phone calls, home visits or by mailing notes to remind “at home” members that our church loves and cares about them. Please notify the church office at 608.783.2236 or office@firstlu.org if you’re aware of an individual or care giver who is either long or short-term home bound.

Courageous Men’s Group

The Courageous Men’s Group are men of all ages who meet weekly on Wednesdays at 6am in the Fireside Room for a time of fellowship and study. Contact Chad Schultz, Jim Sysimaki, or the church office for more info: courageous@firstlu.org.

Needed: Larger Size Clothing

Teens come in all sizes, but unfortunately, most of our current inventory of donations is limited to XL and smaller. If you have items to donate that are 2X and larger — for guys or girls — and in styles teens might like, we would love to have them! Donations of gently used, clean clothing may be dropped off in the hampers located in the church entry. Thank you for helping us make all teens feel good about how they look!

First Lutheran accepts one-time contributions electronically by credit/debit card. Use your mobile device to scan this QR code or go to 1stlu.org/give.
