Sabbatical Together: Genealogy 101

Genealogy 101, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 6:30-7:30pm. Genealogy, also called family history, is the tracing of a person’s ancestral lines. The best place to start any genealogical quest is with the present, the person you know best — you! Learn how to begin this journey into your own family’s history. Intended for beginning genealogists or for experienced genealogists who want a refresher on some topics, including: interviewing relatives, vital records & censuses, citing sources, and memorializing your findings.

Family Photos… a Cloud of Witnesses

Help us create a visual cloud of witnesses for All Saints worship on Thursday, Nov. 1,
at 11am.
We are looking for pictures of loved ones who have died, not just this past year. If you had a loved one die this past year (November 1, 2017–October 31, 2018) and they were a member of our congregation, a letter has been sent to you with a special request. We also are looking for pictures of those who have been baptized this past year. Pictures should be 4x6 and copies that you don’t need back. You can either email pictures to kathryn@firstlu.org or drop them off at the church office. Thanks for your help in creating our cloud of witnesses.

Butter Braid Fundraiser

The Butter Braid fundraiser continues until Sunday, Nov. 4. Youths going to Sugar Creek Bible Camp or on summer mission trips can pick up order forms from the church office. All order forms, with the money, must be turned in to the church office on or before Nov. 4. Orders will be available for pick-up on Wednesday, Nov. 14, after 12pm. If you have any questions, please contact jason@firstlu.org.

High School Sugar Creek Retreat

This high energy retreat will be filled with music, faith-building time and fall activities! Cost: $85 (includes 5 meals). Retreat runs from 7pm Friday, Nov. 9, to 1pm Sunday, Nov. 11. RSVP to Pastor Stanton: jason@firstlu.org.

Helping Hands

If you need help with small jobs around the house or if you need a couple of meals or groceries delivered, just go to the “Helping Hands” board by the nursery and make out a slip with a description of what you need and your telephone number. Anyone who thinks they can help out can take the slip and call the number to work out the details. This ministry is open to all in need of help AND to those who can provide the help. There is no set group of “helpers” so we need involvement from all who can be a blessing to someone else. Thanks!

Opening: Childcare @ Church!

First Lutheran is creating a list of young adults willing to babysit our kids aged 5 and up, at First Lutheran, for $10/hour. The need for care providers happens randomly, mostly evenings. If you are interested, call 608.783.2236.

Clothes Closet Needs

Winter is coming, and that means the Teen Clothes Closet will be giving out more hoodies, winter coats, gloves, hats and warm scarves. New or gently-used (smoke free) donations are appreciated, and can be dropped off in the First Lutheran entry way. Also, we need a heavy-duty clothes rack for winter coats, room dividers to create additional changing areas, and small old-fashioned travel cases or trunks to use as decoration. If you have any of these items to donate, please contact the church office. Other needs: toothbrushes, floss, colored jeans for girls (sizes XS). Thank you! With your support, we have served nearly 100 teens since moving into our new locations!

Snow Birds: Keep Us Updated

Had enough of cold weather already and about to winter in warmer climes? Keep us up-to-date by letting us know your winter address / contact info. Contact the church office with your updated information: office@firstlu.org / 608.783.2236. Thanks!
