OWLs Post for November 2016

October was an enjoyable month for the OWLs. After a foggy ride to Sugar Creek to attend Yesterday’s Youth, we had a nice program and a great lunch. The ride back along the river was beautiful. Our potluck was well attended with a very interesting presentation from Skip Temte on his cruise ship experiences and his most recent trip to Alaska.

For our November outing we are going to try something new. I have heard from several of you that it has been a long time since you have been to a movie. Our local theater has a special price for seniors on Fridays before 5:30 PM. We can get in for just $5. We will make this new adventure on Friday, Nov. 4. We will meet at the church at 3:00 PM to catch a late-afternoon show. The name of the movie will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 1, via email, or call Brian Narveson at the phone number below for info. The theater cannot commit to exactly what will be showing until that Tuesday. They always have a family-friendly movie at that time. After the movie, we will travel to a local restaurant for a good old Wisconsin fish fry. Dinner is on your own. Please email Brian Narveson at owls@firstlu.org or call 608-526-9700 by Thursday night, Nov. 3, if you plan to attend so a restaurant can be booked.

Our potluck will be on Wednesday, November 16, at the church. Mary and I will be in Colorado taking care of grandchildren at that time, but several of the OWLs have agreed to organize and set up the potluck. For the program, Aliyah Richling, a member here at First Lutheran, will talk about the year she recently spent with YAGMs (Young Adults in Global Mission). Aliyah called Békéscsaba, Hungary, her home while working in parish/music ministry and ministering to the Roma people. She is very willing to also answer questions you may have. This is an opportunity not to be missed.
