OWLs Potluck

On Wed., August 5, the OWLs, a group for those 55+, will have their next potluck at noon in the narthex. Cody Rickway from Thrivent will talk about fraud protection and prevention. Contact Brian Narveson at owls@firslu.org with any questions.

Sunshine Boys

The Sunshine Boys serve at First on the first Thursday of each month; the next meeting will be Thur., August 6, at 9am. The Sunshine Boys are an informal group that performs a variety of necessary tasks around the church; such as grounds clean-up, minor repairs, and other small jobs. Rolls and coffee are supplied to replenish your reserves! Dues are free! Contact Mike, our custodian, with any questions: mike@firstlu.org.

Confronting Racism: Live Webcast

Join ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton and William B. Horne II, an ELCA member from Clearwater, Fla., for a live webcast conversation on the complexity and implications of racism. First Lutheran will show this webcast either in the fellowship hall when it airs live on Thursday, August 6 at 8pm,
with a meal served beforehand at 7:15pm.

Share Your Knowledge! Teachers Needed!

First is looking for teachers to lead one confirmation class. Classes are on all subjects, addressing how that particular topic is influenced by faith and vice versa. We are also looking for confirmation small-group leaders. Interested? Share your gifts and contact Pastor Karyn by Monday, August 10.

Meet Tina!

MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS: Meet with Tina, our new Director of Discipleship for Youth, on Wed. August 19, 7:15pm (after worship) to discuss her vision and goals in her ministry. She also wants to learn what parents want for their kids so she can incorporate it into her vision and youth events.

OWLs Fly to Lanesboro for Play

The OWLs, our group at First that welcomes anyone 55+, will fly to Lanesboro to see the comedic play “Charley’s Aunt”. Date: Thursday, August 27. Cost: $35 with a discount if we get more than 15 people. RSVP to Brian Narveson by Tuesday night, August 25: owls@firstlu.org.

Dakota Road in Concert!

Larry Olson & Hans Peterson of Dakota Road return to First for a free, outdoor concert on Saturday, August 29, at 6pm. Nationally known for their stirring music and playful performance, Larry and Hans’ songs range from sacred to silly and touch people of all ages and walks of life. The concert is free and open to the public, all ages welcome! Save the date and invite EVERYONE!

First Fest!

First Fest is early this year! We will gather together for food, fun and fellowship on Sunday, August 30, after worship. Save the date!

Travel Photography Class

Open to all members of First and their friends. Special equipment not required—techniques taught can be used with a point and shoot camera or a smart phone. The class will meet three times in the fellowship hall from 6:30–9pm on the following Mondays: August 31, September 14 and 28. Cost: $25 for all 3 classes. This Little Light of Mine! LED Campaign

Mike needs help lighting the narthex! Your gift of $80 (one section of the big bulb), will help purchase new LED bulbs and better lighting for the narthex. Just sign your name to a section (or more) on the big bulb in the narthex! Checks can be made out to First Lutheran, write “LED Bulbs” in the memo, & placed in the offering plate or drop it off in the office.

Usher Training

Usher training sessions will be offered four times in the coming months; pick a Sunday to learn more about how you, and even your entire family, can serve and worship in this way! Sept 13, 27, Oct 4, 11 all from 9:30–10am. Sign up online or at the Connecting Point table

NEW MEMBER SESSIONS

First Lutheran welcomes all people to participate in Christ’s mission through our ministries, worship and programs, whether you are a member or not. Membership does, however, benefit our congregation. If you’re a member, we know your contact information, can more easily provide you with ministry opportunities and invite you to offer your gifts to the rest of this family of faith. The next new member session will be Sunday, September 27, with new member Sunday on October 4. Children are welcome to be present.
