Fear of the Lord is a lot like this…

The best analogy I’ve heard about this phrase is that we fear the Lord kind of like we fear the ocean. If you’ve ever stood at the shore of all those crashing waves, with no land in sight… its vastness, its smell, its sounds… the ocean is beautiful and powerful and enormous. We stand in awe of it. But it’s also dangerous. Don’t respect the ocean and its riptides could pull you down. Its temperature could harm you. Its vastness could strand you. Fear of the Lord is a lot like this. A healthy respect and appreciation for its beauty and strength. That fear of the Lord is the beginning of true knowledge… knowledge of truth.
